A silk pillowcase should feel like an easy upgrade. Shopping for one can feel less simple: momme, mulberry silk, Grade 6A, different closures and several sizes all appear in the same product description.
Here is how to read those details and choose a pillowcase that fits your pillow, your fabric preferences and your laundry routine.
1. Start with what the fabric is made from
Look for the actual fiber content. “Silky” describes a feel; it does not tell you that a fabric contains silk. A label that says 100% mulberry silk gives you a much clearer starting point.
NIGHT’s 100% Mulberry Silk Pillowcase is silk on both sides. Our DualSilk Pillowcase has a mulberry silk side and an eucalyptus lyocell side. Decide whether you want the same fabric whichever way you turn the pillow, or two different surfaces to choose from.
2. Understand what momme tells you
Momme is a measure of silk fabric weight. You may see it abbreviated as “mm.” In this context, mm does not mean millimeters and it is not a thread count.
A higher momme number means more fabric weight for the same area. It does not, by itself, describe every part of a finished pillowcase: fiber, weave, stitching and closure still matter. Treat it as one useful specification when comparing products.
NIGHT’s 100% Mulberry Silk Pillowcase uses 22 momme silk. If you are comparing it with another option, check the stated momme alongside the fiber content and construction.
3. Read silk grade separately from fabric weight
NIGHT specifies Grade 6A mulberry silk for its 100% silk pillowcase. The grade and momme are separate details: 6A is the stated silk grade, while 22 momme describes fabric weight.
Neither number tells you the size, closure or care instructions. A useful product listing should explain those practical details too.
4. Choose your preferred construction
| Detail | 100% Mulberry Silk | DualSilk |
|---|---|---|
| Surfaces | 100% mulberry silk on both sides | Mulberry silk on one side; eucalyptus lyocell on the other |
| Closure | Hidden zipper | Traditional open end |
| Best fit for your preference | You want silk whichever side faces up | You enjoy choosing between two fabric surfaces |
| Care | Cold gentle wash with mild soap; tumble dry low | Cold delicate wash; air dry flat |
Both options are sold as pillowcases, with no pillow included. Follow the care label on the item you receive.

5. Measure your pillow before choosing a size
Compare your pillow’s dimensions with the product measurements, especially if you use a deep or unusually shaped pillow. Size names can vary between brands.
- Standard/Queen: 20 × 28 inches.
- King: 20 × 36 inches.
These are NIGHT’s listed measurements for the pillowcases above. A pillowcase should fit without forcing a zipper or compressing the pillow into an uncomfortable shape.
6. Pick a care routine you will actually follow
NIGHT’s 100% mulberry silk pillowcase can be machine washed cold on a gentle cycle with mild soap, then tumble dried on low. DualSilk has different drying directions: air dry it flat.
Keep the product label with your laundry instructions, and use our silk pillowcase washing guide when you need a refresher.
