Risers and Shiners: Kristen Taekman, The Fashionista and Model Mom

Our mission at Discover NIGHT is simple: we want to help stand out people crush life by maximizing the night time. We draw our inspiration from these stand out individuals; those who refuse to accept mediocrity; those who wake up on a mission; those who want to be the best at whatever it is they do. It is the people who rise and shine that we work for and in this column, we hear from them.

Kristen Taekman is a model, a dedicated wife and mother of two, a former Real Housewife of New York and a fashion and beauty influencer. Beyond giving us total outfit envy on her blog Last Night’s Look, Kristen is also the founder of Pop of Color Beauty. Talk about balancing it all! She is all about good sleep and a huge fan of NIGHT…who could blame her? ; )

  1. Average hours of sleep per night? At least 7 a night. Less than that and I am a mess.
  2. Night owl or early riser? Uggh…neither. I could / would sleep all day if I could. It’s hard to get to bed before 11pm and it’s so hard to wake up at 6:30 am with the kids!
  3. Matching pajama sets or anything goes? Matching PJ set. I love a jammie set! My mother-in-law turned me on to them years ago. I have a hard time going to bed in anything else. I have my summer sets and my winters ones. I’m also a bath robe girl!
  4. Latest you’ve ever slept in? NOON! But way pre-kids!
  5. What can you not sleep without? MY EYE MASK! If I am traveling and forget to bring it I put a clean sock over my eyes!  And of course my NIGHT Pillow!
  6. Vivid dreams or no dream memory? My most vivid dream was Elvis kissing me at a baseball game!
  7. What gets you out of bed every morning? My kids…without fail every morning between 6 and 7 AM!
  8. Number of times you snooze the alarm? 3 to 5 ;/
  9. First thing you do when you wake up? PEE.
  10. What keeps you going all day? EBOOST! I have one after breakfast and one at 3pm every day. I am a creature of habit!

The Perfect Gift for Everyone on Your Holiday Shopping List

The Perfect Gift for Everyone on Your Holiday Shopping List

What size? Will she even use this? Does he like this color? We get it. There’s a lot to consider when shopping for that perfect gift. But this year you can kick back and enjoy the (spiked) eggnog because we have the answer all of your shopping struggles. The NIGHT Pillow™! Here’s why it is the perfect gift for every single person on your list:

ONE SIZE FITS ALL

People change sizes constantly, especially as the office cookie swaps start up around November 1st. So don’t burden yourself trying to guess someone’s size (let alone insult him/her). Not only does the NIGHT Pillow™ always fit just right, but the foam is advanced engineered to self-adjust accommodating all sleep positions and providing universal comfort.

GENDER NEUTRAL

Men, women, extremely spoiled dogs…the NIGHT Pillow™’s incredible benefits work for everyone. We also have three tonal design options for the border of the pillow, so if you gift two pillows to a couple, they will be able to tell them apart…and you won’t be held responsible for a pillow fight.

ALWAYS APPROPRIATE

Whether you are looking for a gift for sweet grandma or a tinder date with future potential, a game-changing sleep product is a definite win. The NIGHT Pillow™ is a classic…but also keeps it real with a little flava. There’s a bedding angle, a beauty angle, and an all-around #treatyoself angle to be played here.

BLACK MATCHES EVERYTHING

“I don’t like the color black” – said no one ever. You don’t need to be Anna Wintour to understand the power of black to match absolutely everything. And the signature black hue not only looks super fresh, but negates light for a deeper, more restorative sleep.

ALWAYS NEEDED

Besides your wedding registry and moving, how often do you update, or even think about, your bedding? Chances are you and everyone you know have neglected the average 2-3 year life span of a pillow and should be in the market for an upgrade. Gifting someone the NIGHT Pillow™ achieves that “you read my mind, I’ve been meaning to get a new pillow” status.

THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

By gifting someone a NIGHT Pillow™, you are essentially providing them with a better night’s sleep and hydrated and healthy skin and hair. Hands down it cannot get better than that.

So get your gifting on! A NIGHT Pillow™ for YOU and YOU and YOU…

From MTV VJ to Deputy Editor of SELF to Executive Editor of Good Housekeeping Magazine, there is nothing #basic about Meaghan Murphy’s fascinating career. On top of being a total boss on the work front, she is a fitness guru, mother of three, a legit AF human and O.G. NIGHT Pillow™ supporter. Here's our 10 question speed round with Meaghan:

  1. Average hours of sleep per night? 7
  2. Night owl or early riser? Early riser.
  3. Matching pajama sets or anything goes? Mismatched sets. I never seem to pull the matching bottoms and top out of the drawer, so I wind up with pizza on the bottom and dinosaurs on the top. Big fan of Target jammies! (I have 3 kids!)
  4. Latest you’ve ever slept in? As a mom: 7 AM. As a human being without kids: Noon.
  5. What can you not sleep without? The hubs.
  6. Vivid dreams or no dream memory? No dreams.
  7. What gets you out of bed every morning? An internal alarm clock…5:03 like a robot!
  8. Number of times you snooze the alarm? I don’t set an alarm!
  9. First thing you do when you wake up? Roll my feet out with a BodyWorks ball. Trying to avoid plantar fasciitis.
  10. What keeps you going all day? Some undiagnosed hyperactivity disorder.
